Arvin C. Lising: In Memoriam
I met Sir Joey years ago at Claret School, and after his talk, we had a very long chat. At the end of the conversation, he was even open and very cordial to give me his cell number. His stories of the Hapag children inspired me to be a better teacher, and continue working in the fields of the Lord. I met him again two yrs later, and never forgot me. And whenever I talk to him, it's as if it was the Lord who talks to me the way a friend does. His life, struggles and discoveries inspired me to continue the road less traveled.
To hear of his passing weeks ago saddens me in a way because I have lost a co-journeyer with the Lord who strives to bring the message of Christ to others. In such a short time that I knew him, the Lord has made Himself known, and in his woundedness, he has made me realize that the Lord too heals us despite His woundedness and suffering, because He calls us "to rise from the depths of our universal human condition" [Henri Nouwen], and give hope to others that they may rise from it too.
This also gives me consolation because now I know he is with Christ, resting and enjoying the fruits of his labor through the people who believed, were touched, and were inspired to continue proclaiming Christ's message to others.
Sir Joey, vaya con Dios! I am happy to have known you, and hope that your legacy reminds me to continue to proclaim God's love to others...My condolences and grace-filled wishes to the family Sir Joey has left behind. God bless you!

Tiger: Moved at first sight
All i can say is WOW. Mr. Joey Velasco, you are truly one great PINOY artist. I just saw your paintings this morning at a bus going to my office. All of a sudden, I was moved by the portrait of the "Last Supper" with all the street kids on it.
I am not a very religious guy, but i told myself, what am i really living for?
Because of you, your artworks, and your passion, i decided to be a more mature person, especially towards kids.
Thank you very much Joey. You have changed my life in a blink of an eye.

jun: aming salamin at bintana
